Skymap - The Universe on the Go Board

Talk to Me is a poster design project developed from a constrained visual exercise. Starting from a randomly assigned magazine page, I selected a 4 × 4 inch frame centered on a chosen focal point, using this fragment as the conceptual and visual foundation for expansion. The selected image captures a woman reclining sideways on a sofa, holding the cord of a vintage landline telephone. Rendered in black and white with visible grain, the image evokes a nostalgic, archival quality.

The project explores emotional distance embedded in contemporary communication. Inspired by this suspended moment—caught between connection and interruption—I began to reflect on how “distance” today extends beyond geography. As an international student from Wuhan living in New York, I experience this distance through time zones, delayed voices, and the quiet pauses within conversations. Ultimately, the project reflects a paradox of modern life: we are constantly connected, yet still feel apart—forming a state of distant closeness.
